As head of ICTJ’s office in Uganda, Marianne Akumu works alongside government, civil society, and local communities in Uganda to support justice processes and development policies that are fair, inclusive, and community driven. She has authored publications on reparations, the Sustainable Development Goals, and on the use of evidence in Uganda’s humanitarian sector.
Marianne has over a decade of experience in transitional justice, human rights, gender justice, policy, and grantmaking. Before joining ICTJ, she served as the transitional justice coordinator at the Agency for Research and Development (ACORD) and as a legal research officer at the Supreme Court of Uganda.
Marianne holds an M.A. in International Development and Policy from the University of Chicago, where she was a member of the inaugural class of Obama Foundation Scholars. She also holds an LL.M. from the University of Warwick and a LL.B. from the University of Reading.
